Spring in Washington

listen to ‘Spring in Washington ’ on Audioboo

Today is March 12. The sun won’t cross the equator until March 21, officially marking the astronomical season of spring. But no one has told the weather gods that it isn’t yet spring. The sun is out. Birds are warbling and pink trees are budding. Daffodils are in full bloom. Today’s high is expected to be 65, and tomorrow it is expected to top 70. People everywhere are outside, enjoying the warm weather. Especially ... children.

The pink cherry trees that line the Tidal Basin downtown will flower early this year, according to the Park Service. Expect peaking between March 24 and 31. This year marks the one hundredth anniversary of the planting of those trees - don’t miss them. For News Radio, I’m Pat McMurray.
